A recording, then a written draft

Start with what people say in the video.

A saved presentation, interview or spoken tutorial can provide source material for notes, quotations or a document draft. This workflow uses speech in the first audio track of an MP4 file. It does not interpret the pictures, so a reference such as “this chart” still needs a manual check against the original video.

MP4 is the video format for this workflow. For an audio-only export, use an existing MP3, M4A or WAV page. A video URL, MOV, AVI or WebM file is not an MP4 upload. Use your recording or editing app to export a supported file you have permission to process.

Step by step

Prepare the source, then keep a reviewed transcript.

  1. 01

    Listen before uploading

Play the recording and check that the intended speech is audible. Choose one MP4 within 100 MB and the duration limit shown in the uploader. If there are several audio tracks, export the intended track when it is not first.

  2. 02

    Process the spoken audio

Cloud processing extracts the first audio track before speech recognition. The selected audio duration is rounded up to whole seconds for usage, rather than using the full video length. Keep the page open while processing. A silent visual track cannot supply spoken words.

  3. 03

    Review, copy and export

Replay important passages to correct names, figures and quotations. Make your edits in the text editor, then copy the latest text or trigger a UTF-8 TXT download. Keep your own saved copy; result retrieval is temporary.

A look at the result

Listen, then try editing the words.

Owned synthetic video with two audio tracks. The speech below is a manual punctuation edit of the first-track script, not a returned provider transcript or an accuracy benchmark. Play the extracted first audio to hear exactly which track is used.

Before you upload

Match the text to the source and your purpose.

Quotations need a listening check

This manual edit splits the source script into shorter sentences for readability. It is a reference for the synthetic first audio track, not an observed recognition result. If quoting a real speaker, compare every quoted passage with your own recording.

Interview notes

If several people speak, identify them yourself while replaying the recording. Add names only where you can verify who spoke; overlapping voices may leave uncertain words.

Presentations and demonstrations

Check technical terms and references to slides or actions. Add a description of a visual yourself when your notes need it; a speech transcript alone cannot explain what was on screen.

Music, quiet voices and missing speech

Listen to the selected track. If music masks speech or the microphone was distant, an original separate microphone track may help. A larger export cannot restore words that were never recorded.

An upload or duration error

Check size and the intended audio-track length separately. Export a shorter relevant clip if it exceeds the shown limit. Keep the original and use a proper export action if the file cannot be opened; renaming its extension does not convert it.

Questions

Questions about spoken-video transcripts

Does this read slides or generate subtitles?

No. The output is editable plain text from speech. OCR, visual descriptions, automatic summaries, speaker labels, timestamps and SRT or VTT subtitle files are not included. Add headings or labels manually after checking the source.

How much is free?

The cloud allowance is up to 10 cumulative guest minutes. A free account has up to 30 lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use. Using all 10 guest minutes leaves up to 20 account minutes. It does not renew monthly; audio and MP4 share the same balance.

Can I give it a video link?

This upload workflow requires a file from your device. It does not download video links or import captions. Export an MP4 with the intended audio, or a supported audio file, from a source you are allowed to use.

Where does the recording go?

Cloud processing uses private temporary upload storage and a speech transcription provider for the extracted audio. Check the Privacy page for current retention and deletion details, and avoid uploading confidential material without the necessary permission.
