From a file to words

Use the recording you already have.

An audio to text converter recognizes speech in a recording and produces a written transcript. Start with the original file from your recorder, phone or editing app. You do not need to change an MP3 into WAV before uploading it.

Choose MP3 for a compressed recording, M4A for many phone recordings, or WAV for an uncompressed export. VoxText accepts all three through the same tool and allowance. The result is plain text: review names, numbers and important quotes before using it.

Step by step

Convert audio to text in three steps.

  1. 01

    Choose your recording

Select one MP3, M4A or WAV within the size and duration limits shown in the uploader.

  2. 02

    Start transcription

VoxText recognizes the spoken audio. Keep the page open while the recording is being processed.

  3. 03

    Review and export

Correct the transcript, then copy the latest text or download it as a UTF-8 TXT file.

Before you upload

Clear speech makes a better starting point.

Keep the original

Repeated compression can remove detail. Changing a compressed file to WAV will not recover it.

Check names and numbers

Background noise, accents and specialist vocabulary can introduce errors. Compare important passages with your recording.

Know the output

The tool returns editable text. It does not create automatic summaries, speaker labels, timestamps or subtitle files.

Questions

Audio to text questions

How much can I transcribe for free?

Try up to 10 cloud minutes without signing up. A free account includes up to 30 lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use. The allowance does not renew monthly, and no credit card is needed to try it.

What are the file limits?

Upload one MP3, M4A or WAV at a time, up to 100 MB. Your plan and remaining allowance determine the maximum duration; the uploader shows your current limit before you choose a file.

Can I convert audio to a Word document?

VoxText exports TXT. Copy the edited transcript into Word or another document editor when you need formatted text.

Does this tool transcribe live speech?

This workflow is for an existing audio file. It does not record your microphone or join live meetings.

What happens to my recording?

Cloud transcription sends the recording through private temporary storage and a transcription provider. VoxText requests deletion of temporary audio after processing. Completed transcripts are retrievable for up to one hour and are scheduled for deletion after delivery. See the Privacy page for details.
