The container is not the speech

Video length and audio length can differ.

MP4 is a container for streams, not a guarantee that a file contains usable speech. It can hold video, one or several audio tracks, or no audio at all. This workflow selects the first audio stream, rather than combining every stream or choosing a language automatically.

The server checks the selected audio duration before speech transcription and rounds it up to whole seconds for usage. File size and the length displayed by a video player are separate checks. A small, heavily compressed MP4 can still contain a long recording that exceeds your current duration limit or remaining cloud minutes.

Step by step

Inspect, export when needed, then verify the words.

  1. 01

    Inspect the intended track

Play the file and inspect audio tracks in your editing app. A player may remember your preferred language while the first stored audio stream is different. Export the intended speech separately if it is not first.

  2. 02

    Export a compatible copy

Use a real export or encoding action, with audio enabled, to create an MP4 within 100 MB; AAC is a common MP4 audio export option. MP3, M4A or WAV is an alternative for a selected audio-only track. Changing .mov or .webm to .mp4 does not change the container or codec.

  3. 03

Use the verified duration and review the text

Check the limit and allowance shown by the uploader. After processing, compare names and figures with the selected audio, make corrections and copy or export TXT. Do not use the video-player duration to predict every task charge.

A look at the result

Hear the selected first audio track.

Owned synthetic example: 25 seconds of video, 7.335562 seconds in the first audio track and 24.668125 seconds in the second. The first-track audio is available separately below. This manual punctuation edit of its script is not a provider transcript or an accuracy benchmark.

MP4 problems to check before trying again.

Measured example: first track versus video length

The playable synthetic example has 25 seconds of video, a first AAC audio track of 7.335562 seconds and a second AAC track of 24.668125 seconds. A transcription of this file used 8 seconds of the cloud allowance, rounded up from the first track. Video length and the longest track do not determine this charge. This short example is not an accuracy or general codec benchmark.

The wrong language or commentary

First means the first audio stream stored in the file, not whichever track your player currently selects. Export the desired language or microphone track as MP3, M4A or WAV. Do not expect the upload to merge separate speakers or select the best track for you.

No audio track

A silent screen capture or an export with audio disabled cannot produce spoken text. Check whether your editing app muted or omitted the audio during export. Export again with the intended audio enabled, then listen to the saved file before uploading.

Unsupported encoding or a renamed extension

The .mp4 suffix is not a decoder guarantee. Re-export from the original recording with an MP4 container and an audio track, or export a supported audio-only file. An AAC export option describes the audio encoding; renaming the filename does not perform that encoding.

Small file, long speech

Compression can reduce bytes without shortening the audio. Check both size and selected-track duration. Trim a relevant clip or review your plan if the duration exceeds the shown limit; reducing picture resolution alone does not shorten spoken audio.

Damaged or incomplete file

If your player cannot open the file, finish the original export or copy it again from the source. Check that the copied file plays from beginning to end. Keep the original and use a fresh export instead of repeatedly renaming or uploading an incomplete file.

Review before citing

The manual reference uses a semicolon as a readability edit of the synthetic first-track script. Listen to the actual source before quoting it, and verify specialist terms and numbers. File compatibility does not establish transcript accuracy.

Questions

MP4 container and transcript questions

Does MP4 mean every video codec will work?

No. Container, stream encoding and file integrity all matter. The video input scope is MP4 with a usable first audio track; other video containers and video URLs are outside this upload workflow. MP3, M4A and WAV remain the audio-only formats.

Is a second audio track transcribed too?

No. This workflow uses the first audio stream only. Export another track manually when needed. It does not combine tracks, automatically label speakers or transcribe screen text with OCR.

What output should I expect?

Editable speech text and TXT export. Automatic summaries, speaker labels, timestamps and subtitle files are not included. Add any structure yourself after checking the source; this is not a native-caption import.

Is there a separate free MP4 allowance?

No. Up to 10 cumulative guest cloud minutes and up to 30 free-account lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use, share one balance across audio and MP4. These are not monthly minutes or an extra 30 after the guest trial.
