Start with the original MP3 from your recorder or the first export from your editor. Repeated MP3 exports can remove more detail; converting an MP3 to WAV will not recover lost speech. A transcript helps you find passages in an interview or narration, but check the audio before quoting it.
The per-file length limit depends on your plan and available transcription minutes. The uploader shows the applicable limit before you choose a recording.
Try up to 10 cumulative guest minutes. A free account has up to 30 lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use. These minutes do not renew monthly; all transcription pages share the same balance.
Prepare, upload, review
In your recording or editing app, export the spoken track as MP3. A saved editor project or a renamed file is not an MP3 export. Listen to the beginning and end to confirm the intended section is present.
Choose one .mp3 file within 100 MB and the duration shown in the uploader. Start transcription and keep the page open while it processes. Changing the bitrate can reduce file size, but does not reduce the number of recorded minutes.
Replay names, figures and sentences you intend to quote. Correct the editor, then copy the text or download TXT. Write any show notes or summaries separately from the transcript.

A look at the result
Owned synthetic speech, not a user recording: a 7.34-second, 59,660-byte MP3 at 16 kHz, mono. This is the unedited text returned by VoxText cloud transcription in the October 6, 2026 demo test. This clean sample is not an accuracy benchmark.
Review the example
Listen for “before Friday,” “nine,” and “ten minutes.” Changing “before Friday” to “on Friday” would change the instruction. Keep the spoken wording in a quote; add your interpretation outside it. Punctuation should also be reviewed.
VoxText returns editable text for speech. Add speaker names, summaries or note formatting yourself. It does not generate automatic speaker labels, timestamps or subtitle files. Copy and TXT download use the latest text in the editor.
If something goes wrong
Find the original recording or an earlier export rather than repeatedly re-encoding the MP3. Increasing the bitrate of an already compressed file will not recreate missing words. Replay unclear passages and mark anything you cannot verify.
Check it in a local player. A partial download or a different format renamed .mp3 may not contain valid MP3 audio. Download the original again or export a fresh MP3 from the source app; do not fix it by changing the extension.
For a large file, export a smaller copy from the source while preserving intelligible speech. For a long recording, select the section you need or review a suitable plan. Splitting a recording does not create extra free minutes.
