For spoken reminders

Keep the idea without replaying the memo.

A shopping reminder, a draft paragraph or a thought recorded on a walk is easier to reuse as text. VoxText transcribes the audio file you share or export from your recording app.

Many phone recordings use M4A. Check the saved file extension before uploading: an app name or a link to a recording is not an audio file. If your recorder uses another format, export a supported copy first.

Step by step

From your recording app to a text note.

  1. 01

    Export the memo

Use your recording app’s Share or Export action to save a supported audio file somewhere you can select it from the browser.

  2. 02

    Choose the saved file

Open VoxText on the device with the recording. Select the M4A, MP3 or WAV file and start transcription.

  3. 03

    Tidy the note

Remove repeated phrases or correct names, then copy the words into your notes app or download TXT.

A look at the result

A reminder with background noise.

Synthetic speech mixed with pink noise, tested on October 6, 2026. This is the unedited text returned by VoxText cloud transcription. A controlled sample does not establish accuracy for wind, outdoor recordings or overlapping speakers.

Before you upload

Small recording details that help.

Wait for the file to save

A recording stored only inside an app may need to be exported or downloaded before the browser can choose it.

Use a quiet recording

Wind and phone movement can hide speech. Review unclear words rather than assuming the transcript is exact.

File conversion, not live dictation

VoxText uses saved audio. It does not replace your phone’s recorder or add a system-wide keyboard dictation feature.

Questions

Voice memo transcription questions

Can I transcribe an iPhone voice memo?

Yes, when you export or share the recording as a supported M4A, MP3 or WAV file and can select it in the browser. The exact export steps depend on your app and system version.

Can I use an Android recording?

Yes. Check that your recording app exports MP3, M4A or WAV. VoxText does not currently accept every format used by Android recorders.

Can I upload a recording link?

This tool accepts files from your device, not recording URLs or links to files inside another app.

How much can I transcribe for free?

Try up to 10 cloud minutes without signing up. A free account includes up to 30 lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use. The allowance does not renew monthly, and no credit card is needed to try it.

What are the file limits?

Upload one MP3, M4A or WAV at a time, up to 100 MB. Your plan and remaining allowance determine the maximum duration; the uploader shows your current limit before you choose a file.
