M4A · Max 100 MB per file · Checking the file length limit…M4A is an audio container used by many phone recorders. The recording must be saved or exported to a file the browser can select; an app-only item or a sharing link is not enough. The .m4a extension alone does not identify its audio codec or guarantee that every export will decode. Keep the original recording so you can export another copy if needed.
The per-file length limit depends on your plan and available transcription minutes. The uploader shows the applicable limit before you choose a recording.
Try up to 10 cumulative guest minutes. A free account has up to 30 lifetime minutes in total, including linked guest use. These minutes do not renew monthly; all transcription pages share the same balance.
Prepare, upload, review
In your recorder, select the recording and use Share or Export to save an audio file. On iPhone, Voice Memos provides Share options; save a copy to Files when that option is available. Check that the resulting file is .m4a. Exact menus vary by system version.
If it is stored in a cloud folder, let the file finish downloading before selecting it. Open this page on the device with the saved copy and choose the M4A above. Check the 100 MB size cap and your current duration limit, then transcribe.
Listen again for dates, names and actions. Correct the transcript before copying it to your notes app or downloading TXT. If you shorten it into a reminder, label that as your own edited note.

Review the example
The recording says “Please send” and “we should leave”; this illustrative note shortens those phrases. It is useful as a reminder, but is not a verbatim quote. Edit the note yourself and try Copy text or Download TXT. This derivative has been checked locally for decoding, not newly transcribed through the provider.
VoxText returns editable text for speech. Add speaker names, summaries or note formatting yourself. It does not generate automatic speaker labels, timestamps or subtitle files. Copy and TXT download use the latest text in the editor.
If something goes wrong
Save or export the recording outside the recorder app first. In the file picker, browse to the folder containing that copy. A link to a memo or a cloud placeholder must become a downloaded audio file before this file-upload workflow can use it.
M4A exports can contain different codecs. Re-export from the original app, or use your audio editor to create an MP3 or PCM WAV copy and select the matching format page. Renaming .m4a to .mp3 does not convert the encoding.
Replay affected passages and correct only words you can hear. A format conversion cannot reconstruct speech hidden by handling noise or overlapping voices. Keep the original so an unclear section can be checked later.

Yes, when it is exported as a supported M4A file the browser can select and fits the size and duration limits. VoxText uses the saved file; it does not connect to your Voice Memos library.
No extra conversion is needed for a supported M4A export. If an encoding is rejected, export a fresh supported copy from the original app rather than just changing the extension.
Yes. Correct the text in the editor, then copy it or download your latest version as a UTF-8 TXT file. Save it before leaving the page; transcript retrieval is temporary.
